C5 College Day
This event is open to students in grades 9th-12th. Students will get the opportunity to talk to college representatives and get there questions answered about college applications, tuition, etc. They will also get more information on the importance of attending college. TAC schools will also be given access to follow-up virtual C5 workshops with a Q & A session.
Students Serve LA
SSLA is a day of service where students mobilize all across our city. Students tackle a hands-on service project in the morning, and come together for reflection in the afternoon. Past service projects have included beach cleanups, food banks, and homeless shelters. Schools have the option of running a longer-term service project during the year as a lead-up to a culmination in SSLA.
Spotlight on Success
Camping trips allow students to leave their daily environment and become immersed in an outdoor experience while bonding with their peers. Students will develop leadership skills and have time to plan for future TAC events.
Activities
Leadership Meetings
TAC Leadership Meetings should consist of student leaders meeting 1-2 times per month to plan their events. The TAC group should always consist of students from all grades, and should be open to discuss topics relevant to their school lives, personal lives, challenges, and goals
Denim Day
As part of Peace Over Violence, Denim Day encourages students to take a stand against sexual violence. Denim Day LA started in 1999, in the wake of the case of a young Italian woman who was raped by her Driver’s Education instructor. After a trial and appeal to the Italian Supreme Court, the instructor was acquitted because the young woman had been wearing jeans – the justices reasoned that jeans are difficult to remove, thus assuming her consent. Outraged by the verdict, the women of the Italian Parliament came to work wearing jeans in solidarity, in protest of the misconceptions that surround sexual assault.
