Advocacy

Arc believes civic engagement empowers communities to have their say over policy decisions that shape their lives, cities and neighborhoods. Our organization models that behavior through our involvement in the CA3.

What is the CA3?

The CA3 (which stands for the California Afterschool Advocacy Alliance) is the statewide voice for expanded learning (afterschool and summer) programs.

As a member of the alliance, we work with other members to promote state and federal policies that enhance the quality and accessibility of publicly funded expanded learning programs in California’s most underserved communities. We also build public awareness of the essential value and role of expanded learning programs to support student success.

How does after school funding work?

A majority of school-based after school funding comes from state or federal government programs. The most common sources are the After School Education and Safety (ASES) program, 21st Century Community Learning Centers (21st CCLC), After School Safety and Enrichment for Teens (ASSETS), and the Expanded Learning Opportunities Program (ELOP). Schools may have one grant or a combination of grants to fund their programs.
